Wow, what an exhausting but incredibly exhilarating weekend!
This was only my second time at Directors College, I thought it
was going to be impossible to better my first weekend, how wrong
I was!
The weekend started by meeting up with some of the friends I made
last year, and catching up on the work they had been doing with
their choruses since we last met. I soon realised that as an Assistant
Director I get quite a bit of time in front of the chorus each week
to practice what I have learned, for which I am grateful to our
M.D, Sara.
Saturday was 'the icing on my barbershop cake', I got to work with
Cherry Hartshorn and The Sounds of Three Spires. It certainly makes
a difference working with a bigger men's chorus, what a sound they
make. I was so nervous before I started to work with them but as
with everyone at the college they were so supportive, even if my
direction did go a little awry. Cherry's handy hints and tips were
brilliant, I now have Sara whispering 'feet' and 'shoulders' to
me, when she is coaching me.

I'm sure I speak on behalf of most, if not all of the weekend's
delegates when I say Thank You to the college organisers for inviting
Royce Ferguson. Royce is the most inspiring and gentle mannered
man I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I absorbed so much of
his examples subconsciously it's hard to put into words what he
actually taught us. Just by experiencing the way it feels to sing,
and preparing the breath to sing, I was so inspired I wanted to
call the chorus together for an extra rehearsal on the Sunday night!
Thank-you once again for all of the hard work that goes on behind
the scenes at this annual event, it truly is appreciated.
