Recruitment - Some ideas and resources

OPEN NIGHT

Here is one idea for recruitment: a well orchestrated open night at your club. Whatever method you choose as being appropriate to current circumstances remember that we are competing with many other demands on men's time, after they have earned their living and fed the family. That time is precious and they will not thank us if we fritter it away for them. They want a sense of achievement and our strongest hand is to give them just that.

SINGING COURSE

Another idea that has been used is to run a Singing Course. This has been successful for a number of clubs. Here you will find helpful advice, management documents, publicity material, course notes and other material that will help you run your own successful course.

There is a SURVEY of courses and workshops. Visit it to compare the results of courses already undertaken.

If your club has run such a course, please take the time to enter the details about your experience.

HARMONY WORKSHOP

Similar to a Singing Course but usually run as a one-day event. It has some advantages in cost and time and has been successful for some clubs. Here you will find helpful advice, management documents, publicity material, course notes and other material that will help you run your own successful workshop.

INVITATIONAL CHORUS

One more idea is to run an 'Invitational Chorus'. You plan to put on a concert, Christmas is a good time, and you invite other singers to come and join you specifically for that concert. They attend special rehearsals with you, learn the songs, you do the concert and that's it. If you do it right, some people are bound to want more!

There is no easy way to recruit members but above all be nice to people.

Happy harmonising.
