The British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) is a charitable organisation with music education as its goal. There are over 2000 members in 59 clubs and over 70 registered quartets across the UK.

The annual BABS Harmony College, usually held over the August Bank Holiday weekend, is their flagship educational event. It attracts about 300 students to study all aspects of a cappella chorus and quartet performance. It is not limited to BABS members but is open to all and attracts attendees from the Ladies Association of Barbershop Singers, Sweet Adelines International, the teaching profession and from the wider world of choral music.

It's all over!

It's been and gone and now you have to wait until next August. This site will now lie fallow until sometime in April 2012 when it will be updated with new information for Harmony College 2012

Two, yes TWO, US Educators for 2011

To help Neil Firth kick start the new format Directing Stream, Steve Armstrong of Toronto Northern Lights has agreed to come and share his knowledge and experience.
To continue what Cindy Hansen started last year, Gary Plaag of Alexandria Harmonizers will be taking the Performing The Plan course.
Both of these gentlemen have enormous amounts of knowledge, experience and talent to share with us. Enrol on one of these streams and get lots of bang for your buck!

New Directing Stream this year

We've had Beginning Directing for a number of years but, this year, the stream has widened to include all directors, whether they be budding or in full bloom. Led by Neil Firth, director of the Cottontown Chorus and Steve Armstrong, director of Toronto Northern Lights, this stream will be attractive to front line directors, assistants, section leaders and anyone else who does or would like to stand in front of a chorus.

New Intermediate Arranging course

In addition to the Beginning Arrangers course, this year Bob Walker will be taking an Intermediate Arrangers course. Bob will choose a song and the class will arrange it in its entirety. Bob says that, if there isn't enough time at the college to finish it, there will be a lot of emails in the weeks afterwards in order to get it done. The college Chorus Stream have promised to use this arrangement in 2012.
