If you want to improve vocal craft and presentation skills whilst singing as part of an 80 man chorus, the Chorus stream is the right choice for you. But, the stream is limited to 80 students this year and you'll need to register early to ensure a place. These are the three pillars on which the chorus stream is based. You will improve your ability to contribute to your own chorus performances with coaching in vocal technique and other essential skills, such as understanding the music, visual communication and responding to the director. You will experience a wide range of rehearsal ideas using the College songs. A typical day will include sessions working as a chorus with coaches improving the songs, interspersed with time off the risers, learning other skills. The chorus performance on the Saturday Night Show is a focal point for the weekend. A new feature developed at last years Harmony College was Octet singing and this will feature more significantly at the 2011 College. It is VERY IMPORTANT for chorus stream students to learn the words and notes of the College songs before the weekend. Music and learning CDs are provided to help you and the better you know the notes on arrival, the more you will get out of the college. The stream is taught by a team of experienced directors and section leaders. They each bring their individual area of expertise to teach the skills which are most important to a barbershop chorus member. The chorus will also receive additional input from external educator/s from the Barbershop Harmony Society during the weekend. Previous students have remarked on the wonderful feeling of camaraderie and fellowship which develops in the chorus over the weekend. The course is ideal for beginners and more experienced singers alike. If you would like to be part of an advanced group within the chorus stream then you need to be completely note and word perfect on the college songs prior to the weekend and will also learn AN ADDITIONAL SONG which only the advanced stream will sing. We will have an extra session on the Thursday night and after lunch on Friday and Saturday for those who feel they are at this level. We anticipate this to be around 25-30 people so please make yourself known to us on application so that we can plan the session well. Please do not put your name forward for this if you think you may not be completely note and word perfect.
